Today I was about 30 minutes north of San Francisco, in Petaluma, sourcing some vintage and antique goods for The Shop and I met the sweetest older woman. She had a great tabletop collection that she was willing to part with, lucky for me, but also rocked some bad ass turquoise rings. A great reminder that like with beautifully crafted goods, beautiful souls also get better with time.

When buying for The Cabinet Shop I'm always looking for great men's accessories because they are few and far between. Two recent obsessions are the above mixed metal feather ring by Self Edge and the skull ring with wings from British jeweler The Great Frog. Based out of London, The Great Frog were the first to make skull rings and you'll be hard pressed to find a true rocker that doesn't sport something from them. We love our girl Imogen at their Los Angeles outpost and can't wait for the rest of their line to show up in the Shop.

I've admired Shane Powers work for a while now, having done some beautiful editorials along with product launches for the likes of Martha Stewart and more, he has been popping up everywhere. It's so revealing to see how people live when the cameras are off and often leaves me very inspired to perk up my own space. What I've mostly been intrigued by are personal collections, whether they are fabrics, jewelry, books or exotic treasures—how they are organized and curated has been very interesting to see. While in LA this weekend I had the pleasure of viewing a few exhibitions, one of them being the Rodarte 'Fra Angelico' at the LACMA. The beautiful dresses were set in the Italian Renaissance gallery, being that the collection was inspired by the masterpieces found in the monastery of San Marco by Fra Angelico in Florence. My favorite was the hot pink gown with metal cut out bustier. If you can, check it out.

One of my favorite sites, The Bold Italic, recently did a round up of homes that have been converted into art galleries in San Francisco, that is sure to add another bullet point to your to-do list. Don't let the "home" part fool you, as the article says "they’re skilled curators who’ve created respected destinations for collectors, while welcoming visitors to interact with the artists displaying their work". Prada slayed their Fall/Winter 2012 collection in Milan this weekend with a star studded runway event that featured some of Hollywood's leading men in sumptuous overcoats, dark pallets and textured details. The cast of characters Muiccia Prada chose for the show were so fitting yet allowed the clothes to really shine. The red double-breasted overcoat that Adrien Brody wears above, with the fur collar, is sure to foreshadow an onslaught on gentlemanly dressing I could definitely get use to.

I'm completely in love with the General Store in San Francisco. Located right off the N Judah out to Ocean Beach, this perfect little store is a well curated collaboration between the two owners of new and vintage home decor, jewelry, books, jewelry, rugs and apparel. Expect to find one of my favorite books, Handcrafted Modern on the bookshelf, vintage Hudson Bay blankets, local crafted jewelry, reformed Levi's jackets and a super cute greenhouse in the back.

Today I finally visited Creative Growth, an Art Center that serves adult artists with developmental, mental and physical disabilities with a professional studio environment and gallery. The studio is amazing—there are various stations for the artists to work at: mosaics, tapestries, illustration, etc...and the best part is the works are available for sale. There are some seriously stunning pieces which make you feel especially good dropping in on. Do yourself a favor and visit their main studio in Oakland or smaller gallery in the Mission of San Francisco.

This weekend I had a friend visit from NYC for her bday, as well as the usual debauchery I took her to some real deal eats in San Francisco. A few conclusions were made: my new favorite brunch spot is Citizen's Band in SOMA for their soulful menu; the seriously cute and upscale retro diner, Presidio Social Club has an amazing Crab Louis sandwich and one of the best wiener spots in all the land is Wurst in Healdsburg. You've been warned!

Yes, it's that time to switch up gift giving to yourself and give some of them away, sad face. But no need to fret, this Saturday Remodelista is doing their Holiday Market at Big Daddy's Antiques in LA. One of the special vendors that will be there is RTH Shop, Rene Holguin's tiny store on N. La Cienega. After working in visual merchandising for the corporate fashion world (J.Crew, Levi's, Ralph Lauren) she opened her own very thoughtful shop that can be described as "global", "unisex" and very American West. A new vintage furniture/rarities/bookstore opened up in San Francisco's Mission district recently and it's a strange brew of wonderful and odd that will make you feel like you walked into a gypsie's den—in a good way. Went we went into Viracocha this weekend, where the shopkeepers looked as if they could have been an extra set of hands at an old timey circus; one was playing piano while another dusted old typewriters with over-sized feathers. Check it out for yourself babes.

For my new apartment I've been dabbling with the idea of bold colors in the public rooms, it can be a bit of a challenge to find the right color outside of the bedroom that will make statement without being too loud. What seems to be a sign of good things to come, Steven Allen opens up his first SF boutique in Hayes Valley tomorrow (bye bye payday!). The new location at 445 Hayes of course carries the eponymous line along with Common Projects, Filson, Whit and more. The Manhattanite filled the store with finds from the Alameda Flea Market, artwork found in the Mission and you can even enter through the back door of the Blue Bottle Kiosk—heaven. Guess well see you all there tomorrow! Xx

Versace's new line for H&M dropped last night to a fab crowd partying on the Hudson but the lure of this night didn't stop there—the new collection is actually pretty cool. It's a total throw back to the 90's heyday of Versace—bold greek key studded details, the colorful leopard print jacket (which I need), leather headscarves and neon floral prints. I really hate lines, but might have to make an exception for this one. In stores Nov. 18th.

For a while I've wanted to re-create a Philip Crangi bracelet made with mini brass hex nuts and finally I did! Super easy, get three pieces of rope a yard each and braid in the nut before placing the outer rope in the middle of the braid. A staple of perusing the web for me is checking in with Mr. A Continuous Lean. To my delight his most recent post is on Unionmade, one of the dopest menswear stores in SF and probably anywhere.

He takes some great shots showcasing the shop and chronicles his conversations on "heritage". Here's an excerpt: "Visiting the shop and seeing the selection and careful merchandising, it’s no wonder that stuff is flying out the door. It’s a funny thing too, because the “heritage” obit is in the paper everyday. Heritage is a sneaky little bastard like that, all refusing to die and everything. Refusing to allow the growing segment of young creatives who view themselves as “real” blue collar dudes to stop being so pissed off because a bunch of “hipsters” co-opted their shit." One of our favorite shops in SF, Reliquary, introduced us to one of our new favorite local designers, Ali Golden. She works mostly in sheers, which is great for fall layering and her color pallet is spot on with cobalt blues and saffron yellows. She has a small shop in Oakland's hot like fire Temescal neighborhood, which is super cute too. Stay Golden Ponyboy, stay Golden.

ODE TO THE RUBA ROMBIC

While working on styling a tabletop shoot, I came across some of the most beautiful glassware I've ever seen. The style and collection shown here is called Ruba Rombic and was created by Reuben Haley in the 20's—its considered to be one of America's greatest contributions to the Art Deco movement and is seriously stunning. That smokey glass, jagged edges with a luxe elegance—it will remain timeless and edgy which is something so hard to achieve. While the Ruba Rombic collection is super hard to find, Ted Muehling's Tortoise Full Cut Decanter might be a contemporary solution. Start lusting now...

My favorite brand right now is Bleu de Paname out of Paris. Doing both mens and womens wear with collaboration with heavy hitters such a Comme des Garcons and Pointer, theres not much they can do wrong. Here are some favorite shots of mine from current and past collections.

Last weekend a group of rowdy friends braved the winding roads with early am beers sloshing in our cups and arrived at the Tamales Bay Oyster Company. Loaded up with booze, compound butter, veggies and other accouterments, we bought a few bags of fresh oysters and grilled the day away. Couldn't have been a more beautiful day.

Bodega Bay rocks! A beautiful landscape, bikers, babes, Schlitz, taxidermy, American flags and a good juke box is what you can expect to find at the Casino Bar & Grill in Bodega Bay. Seriously, best bar ever.

Timber Cove Inn in Fort Ross, CA is an extremely beautiful get away complete with super 70's Nor Cal vibe. After a great trip antiquing through Bodega Bay and a pit stop at the best bar ever, Casino Bar & Grill we arrived at Timber Cove and took in the breathtaking view. Stock up on good friends and good cocktails and make a weekend out of it!

The Shop is spending more time in SF as of late and have fallen in love with some amazing men's clothing stores. One in particular, MAAS & Stacks carries some hard to find brands in the Bay like that of the beloved Patrick Ervell. I'm currently lusting after this leather backpack from the NY designer, yes thats hand-braided horse hair on the straps. Perfection for any day trip.

I am dying, in that Rachel Zoe sort of obnoxious way—all previous lady crushes be warned, you have met your match.

Austrian designer, Kim Ellery's Fall '11 collection is pure perfection. Mostly muted tones with some pops of black and red is perfect for mixing and matching. I love the bit of androgyny, sumptuous materials and unique lines. I would seriously love to have any and all of these pieces.

While its quite sad that beauty line Shu Uemura can't be bought in stores in the US anymore, fortunately its online component hasn't failed us. For summer my fav lipstick color is Shu Uemura's 050, looks like purple but goes on more like a dark pink. Now come and get some lovas!

I love the rich color and pattern on this Mexican coverlet from l'aviva home. The textile is handcrafted on muslin with cotton embroidery thread by the Otomi Indians and said to be inspired by the wall painting on the cliffs in Hidalgo. I would love to throw this on my bed in the summer months with a simple white sheet underneath.

This weekend some friends and I did brunch at Anella in Brooklyn. The space is true to BK style, a rustic long wood bar, brick walls, hanging antique mirrors and more importantly great food. I ordered poached eggs over a vegetable hash which was perfect. The eggs were slightly runny, oozing into the charred squash, zucchini and eggplant. They also bake their bread in flowerpots which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
